چکیده

The physical and chemical characteristics of five pomegranate cultivars (Mridula, Ganesh, White muscut, G-137 Jalor seedless) were examined in the present investigation. Physical properties different determined such as major diameter (85.05 to 91.62 mm), intermediate (76.85 87.83 minor (79.86 90.01 sphericity (0.903 0.937), fruit weight (294.4 404.14 g), volume (289 387 mL), number arils per fruit, 100 evaluated analysed for varietal difference. In addition, peel moisture content (68.72 74.15% w.b.), aril (78.25 81.82% ash (0.81 1.51%), (0.29 0.53%), juice pH (3.47 3.96), total soluble solids (11.60 13.00 °Brix), titratable acidity (0.42 0.58%), phenolic content, yield (104 186 mL) turbidity (142.20 364.50 NTU) textural properties, like compressive strength/firmness (23.09 34.54 N), cutting strength (84.33 111.35 N) skin puncture force (0.28 0.38 also investigated. Overall results suggested that measured physico-chemical quite by cultivar differences.

Genetic diversity of Moroccan pomegranate (Punica Granatum L.) cultivars using AFLP markers

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is one of the most important fruit crop cultivated in Morocco. However, little data is available on its genetic diversity. The genetic relationships among pomegranate cultivars were investigated using Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) markers. Six pairs of primers were used to analyse 24 pomegranate cultivars obtained from the central regions of Moro...

The role of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) in colon cancer.

Colon cancer is one of the major causes of cancer-related death in the Western world. Although cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents are available to treat the disease, these agents become ineffective as the disease advances to an invasive state. An alternative but viable approach to reduce the incidence of this deadly disease is then, to increase the dietary intake of relatively non-toxic fruits a...

INVITED REVIEW Biotechnological advances in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is known for its nutritional, medicinal, and ornamental importance. It is conventionally propagated by hardwood and softwood cuttings, but about 1 yr is needed before the rooted cuttings can be transplanted to the field. Propagation by seed is undesirable as populations are heterozygous and seed propagation leads to wide variations in tree and fruit characterist...
